Helldivers 2's next warbond is delayed, as Arrowhead says it 'needs more time to cook' following the shooter's massive progression rework
About
Overview
Big changes have been happening within Helldivers 2 of late. After tension within the community saw Steam reviews plummet to Mostly Negative, Arrowhead issued a statement promising a whole bunch of alterations to how the game works. Technical improvements! New red stratagems! And most importantly of all, a complete rework of how objectives and player progression functions. Many of these changes have now been implemented, and they seem to have gone down well, with recent Steam reviews now at the upper end of 'Mixed'. But all that retooling may have had some knock-on effects for the game, as Arrowhead has announced that its next warbond is delayed. The delay was revealed by Arrowhead both on Discord and on X (via GamesRadar). "The last warbond listed on the roadmap for June needs more time to cook," the studio wrote. "We would rather hold back and make sure the final product is something we're proud to release and you're excited to unlock." Arrowhead didn't explain why the warbond needs more time, but given everything else that's been going on, it would be understandable if some of the studio's existing plans for the game had to be temporarily set to one side. However, some players have speculated that the reason for the delay is that Arrowhead gave away some of its features for free. Recently, Arrowhead introduced a new vehicle stratagem to Helldivers 2's, a space 4x4 called the FRV that was added as a Galactic Campaign reward. Numerous fans have suggested that this was supposed to be the central feature of the next warbond. But due to how players reacted to the Exo Experts warbond, Arrowhead opted to change this. There is some logic to this. Arrowhead promised better campaign rewards as part of its progression overhaul. But it isn't clear how much of that was planned and how much was a response to fan negativity. Hence, scavenging plans for a warbond to feed those campaign rewards isn't beyond the realms of possibility. Either way, I think better campaign rewards is a net positive for Helldivers 2. Arrowhead has overemphasised warbonds of late, and making more awards available just by playing normally—rather than grinding for Super Credits or forking out cash—should go a long way to keeping the community placated. 2026 games: All the upcoming gamesDetails
