How to get a map in Gothic Remake
About
Overview
Finding and remembering where stuff is in Gothic Remake can be a bit of a pain, especially as there's no compass. In fact, if you want a map, then you'll have to acquire one yourself with your hard-earned ore nuggets. It won't mark important NPCs or locations, but it does give you a useful lay of the land, whether you're in a settlement like the Old Camp or exploring the wider colony region. You can also add markers to the map yourself, helping you remember where certain points of interest are from moment to moment. All that said, here's how to get a map in Gothic 1 Remake, a little tip to help you get one for cheap, and whether buying every map is strictly necessary. You can purchase a map once you arrive in the Old Camp, and you have two separate options. Graham, the map maker, sells both a Colony map and an Old Camp map, for the wider world and the settlement respectively, but you can actually get the Colony map at a lower price if you buy it from Dexter in the market area. The video above shows you how to find both Graham and Dexter. Graham's shack is right next to the north gate (where you originally enter the Old Camp) and you can find him wandering around the area during the day or by the cooking cauldron nearby—he has a short black beard and a receding hairline and is dressed in the basic digger clothes. Dexter, on the other hand, is on the south side of the Old Camp in the market area. To get here: He sells a Colony map for 24 ore nuggets versus Graham's 44, and this is the map I definitely recommend you buy. You could also purchase the Old Camp map from Graham for 35, but honestly, there are better things to spend that on and it's a small area—basically a circle of shacks around a castle. You'll come to learn where everyone is soon enough. Later on, you can buy additional maps which mark specific locations on your Colony map, such as in the Test of Faith quest for Diego, which sees you visiting the old mine. Again, I don't think these are necessarily worth the ore when you can just remember where important locations are via their visual indicators on the map, or place down markers yourself to remember.
